Ken Paxton has faced felony fraud charges for nearly a decade, accused of misleading investors by promoting a company for personal gain without disclosing that he was being paid and of failing to register as an investment adviser. The case has followed him throughout his time as Attorney General, and he has remained under indictment while serving as Texas’s top law enforcement official.

In a case that led to his impeachment, Ken Paxton was accused of using his office to help real estate developer and political donor Nate Paul, including intervening in legal matters for Paul’s advantage. In return, Paxton allegedly received personal benefits, including home renovations. The allegations were serious enough that the Texas House—controlled by his own party—voted to impeach him.

After multiple senior aides reported Paxton to law enforcement over alleged bribery and abuse of office, Ken Paxton allegedly retaliated against them. Several of those whistleblowers were fired or forced out after coming forward. Their reports became central to the impeachment case and exposed internal concerns about how the Attorney General’s office was being used.

Ken Paxton has supported policies pushing a strict moral and religious agenda—including backing efforts to place the Ten Commandments in Texas classrooms. At the same time, he was accused of using his office to benefit a woman he was having an extramarital affair with, including helping secure her employment through donor Nate Paul. The relationship became part of the broader corruption investigation and ultimately contributed to a highly public and contentious divorce from his then wife and Texas State Senator, Angela Paxton.
